RSV Scare

On Wednesday we had a scare with Tyler. I took him to the doctors because I wanted to have his lungs listened to because he was getting congested and had a cough. We went at 9:45 in the morning. Doctor Dallen came in and checked him out. He looked in his ear and found that Tyler had an ear infection. Then he listened to his lungs and looked in is mouth and nose. After he listened to Tyler, he diagnosed Tyler with RSV. Something I didn't want to hear. He decided to run some test and have them on hand just incase Tyler was to be admitted to Primary Children's Medical Center (PCMC). They did a deep suction on him for two reasons: first to clear out his nose and second to send a sample to PCMC. Then they got a urine sample. It took a couple of trys because Tyler peed all over the nurse. Then we were sent to PCMC to get blood work drawn. While I was driving up to PCMC, every possible thing was going through my head. It was a scary situation. We got there just fine and went to the lab to have his blood drawn. They had to poke him 3 times. He did not like that at all. Between every poke, I would pick him up and calm him down so that they could look for another vein. They finally were able to get enough blood out of his hand and we were on our way home. We got home at 2:30. The doctor told me to just keep a close watch on his breathing and if it got worse to go straight to PCMC, and if he is okay through the night to follow up on Friday. Tyler did great through the night and he was able to sleep. He would cough, but then would go right back to bed. So, Friday we went back to Doctor Dallen and he listened to his lungs again. He said that they were sounding better and that we didn't have to go back unless things got worse. I was relieved to hear those words. Today he is doing great. He still has a nasty cough and is congested, but sounding better. He is on antibiotics for his ear infection and the humidifier is going 24/7 in our home. But we are on the mend and so thankful for that. He is now 14 pounds and every nurse/tech couldn't believe how big he was for being just "47 days" old. He is a sweet baby and through this all, still has a smile when you look at him.

Duct Tape

So we have had a problem with Kali taking off her diaper. She loves to take off her diaper and it was driving us nuts. We decided to put a onesie on her to see if that would help. It worked until she out smarted us and figured out how to undo the onesie. So Jarel came up with a better solution. DUCT TAPE!! Until we think of something else, duct tape it is. I am just waiting for the day when she flings poop all over the place. And when she does, I will have the camera ready and another post of Kali will be created.

My Challenge

Every day brings about new challenges, and everyone has his or her own challenges. My challenge today was Kali. Today we went through garlic butter being spilled, almost a split chin (luckily we just got a nice bruise), Makena's hair being pulled, Kali climbing up on the girl's big dresser, crying, fighting, and Kali getting a bloody nose (you should see the other guy!) Let's hope tomorrow brings about a different challenge!

SMILE!

A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages. "Mama, look what I found", the boy called out. "What have you got there dear?" With astonishment in the young boy's voice, he answered, "I think it's Adam's underwear!"

Forks are so overated!

Why use a fork when you have your hands? We always give Kali a fork or spoon with her meal, but those are useless. I guess you can't get as much food in your mouth with a spoon or fork as you can with your hands! (notice the fork on the table)

Look, No Cavities!!

So, today we took Makena to the dentist. She was nervous to go, but when she found out that she got to ride a merry-go-round after the dentist saw her, she was excited. We got to the dentist and waited just a few minutes until they took us back. The dentist asked Makena what movie she wanted to watch while they cleaned her teeth and Makena wanted the Tigger Movie. So, while she got her teeth cleaned and flossed, she watched the Tigger Movie. Makena was a little scared of the "spit sucker" because it was noisy, but once she realized that it didn't hurt, she was good with it. After her teeth were cleaned, the dentist came and looked at her teeth. He said that Makena had very good teeth. Makena also got xrays of her teeth and she didn't quite know how to old the film in her mouth, but I told her to bite on it like a hamburger and she did great. After she was all done, she got to pick out a toy from the toy chest and then she got a token to ride the merry-go-round. She chose to ride on Nemo. She did a great job and like she would say "I was very brave."

One Month

It is hard to believe that our "little man" is already one month old. It is amazing how when another child enters your home, it is like he has been there for years. It is a natural feeling. You have known him forever. Tyler has been a blessing in our lives. He is a sweet baby with a calm disposition. You just want to hold him all day long and stare at him. You get a glimpse of Heaven. And we thank Heavenly Father everyday for sending him to us!

"No Nap"

So today we were putting the girls down for a nap. Makena had a hard time going down and was giving us grief, that Jarel decided that she needed to take a nap in her own bed (usually she sleeps in our bed for naps.) Then we put Kali in her crib and she didn't want to take a nap either, but we left her in her crib. So now we have both girls not wanting to take a nap and crying. It was great fun. Well, about 10 minutes both girls were quiet and so we thought that they had fallen asleep. The next thing we knew, we heard a thump. I thought it was Makena playing with toys instead of sleeping. Then we hear "Daddy" with more crying. Jarel went down the hall and both doors were closed, so he thought "Makena is not out and Kali can't get out of the crib." But, it was our escape artist. Kali had gotten out of her crib all by herself. Now isn't that just wonderful! She has figured out how to get out of her crib. Not what we wanted. So, now we are just hoping she had forgotten how and will stay in her crib.

Starting Out

So we are going to try this whole "blogging" thing and keep you updated on the fun things are family is doing. Also of the fun/cute stories that the kids are doing. I hope you all enjoy this. Be patient as this is our first time blogging.
