California

This past week, Makena, Kali, Braxton and I had the opportunity to go to California with Grandpa Hathaway. Neil has been wanting to get out of the cold and smog for quite some time, but the timing hasn't been right, until now. Neil came to our house the Thursday before we left for dinner and we were just chatting about how he is wanting to get to California to visit Courtney, Kim and the kids and how a guy asked him to pick up a trailer while he was down there. Neil said, "do you want to come?" I said, "yes I do but I don't think I can." Well, the rest went down pretty fast, Neil called Shirley to see if she would watch Tyler and Hailey (not enough room in the truck to take all the kids) and Jarel said he didn't care if we went, and soon enough, Shirley said yes she would watch them and since the girls are off track...it just worked out perfect.
We left Tuesday afternoon and got to Mesquite. Kids were happy to be out of their carseats, but they did so good on the drive. I was worried about Braxton, but we only had to stop once between home and Mesquite. Wednesday, we drove the rest of the way and got to cousin's home. It was nice to see family and be in warmer weather! Kali fell in love with Allicen's rat and tells me she wants one for her birthday...we shall see! Makena had a great time playing with Allicen. While there we went to a trampoline place called Get Air and spent a wet rainy day at Sea World. It rained the entire time there, but it didn't ruin our fun. We loved watching all the shows and seeing all the animals. With it being rainy, the park was empty and so the kids could ride in their own cars on the rides, didn't have to wait in a line to see characters and we got great seats at all the shows. We had a great time!
Jarel, Tyler and Hailey had a great time with Shirley. She spent the nights over at our house sleeping in the bunk bed (Tyler was happy to have a Grandma as a room mate for the week), and they took many trips to Costco and Walmart. They all said it was a great week spent with eachother. Thanks for watching the kids!

A Life Lesson

I do not write this to bring attention to Kali or to make her feel bad in any way, I write this to hopefully be a life lesson: if you make a mistake, you can repent and make it right and you will be forgiven and that your parents still love you like crazy.

Yesterday I went shopping with Kali at Walgreens to get a few itema. Kali had asked me if she could have a pair of Dora sunglasses. I had told her not today. I thought nothing of it until this morning. I was walking into the kitchen and heard, "No, Tyler, don't tell me." Too late...I heard. Kali had the pair of Dora sunglasses and she had taken from the store without paying for them. Jarel and I talked with her about how that was wrong and that we needed to make it right by taking them back to the store and telling them sorry and seeing if there was anything Kali could do to make up for taking the sunglasses. Kali was very sad and crying and did not want to go back to the store. But I was very proud of her that she did say that it was not right and needed to take them back. We drove back to Walgreens and Jarel and Kali went into the store and found the manager and explained what had happened. The manager was very nice and got down to eye level with Kali and explained that she could get in big trouble for doing that and that he forgave her and that she did the right thing.
Kali learned that it is not the right thing to steal and that she needs to do the right thing and take them back and also that Mom and Dad and Jesus still love her even if she made a mistake.
Hope this can be a learning lesson for her!

Happy 4th Birthday

Wanted to wear his favorite shirt on his Birthday. And we did a treasure hunt that night and found our pirate bags.

He got a ball and glove from his siblings and was in heaven!

Trying on the glove to see if it fits...and yes it did!

Opening a gift card from Grandpa and Grandma Hathaway. He didn't know what he wanted from them so I suggested a gift card and Tyler was so happy and excited to go to Target and pick out whatever he wanted!

With his new bike. A little big, but once it is warm outside to ride it, he will fit just right. Winter birthdays in Utah...he has been riding it all around the house and really likes it!

His candles are light saber candles!

Playing catch with Dad

Blowing out the candles. Loved his cake and was excited to have 3 super heros on it!

With Grandpa and Grandma Hathaway. Grandpa and Grandma Boyack were out of town. They came over later that week and got him a spider man outfit and mask.

Eating his birthday donut. He picked out glazed donuts this year.

My first time doing fondant...I think it turned out pretty good. He loved it, so I guess that is all that matters. I learned tricks and things I could do different for the next cake!

What he got with his gift card from Grandpa and Grandma

While the older girls are at school...the super heros come out to play!
Here are some of Tyler's favorites
color: blue
food: chicken nuggets
animal: frog
treat: gushers
place to go eat: McDonalds
number: 1
place to go with family: Chuck E Cheeses
TV show: Dora
thing to do outside: Play on the trampoline

Happy Birthday big guy! Tyler has been looking forward to his birthday for quite some time. I would ask him what he wanted to do and what cake he wanted and he said he wanted a "Hulk cake" and wanted to go to McDonalds for dinner. Easy enough. Then asked if he wanted a friend party and he said no, just a Grandpa and Grandma party.
His birthday morning started out with the birthday donuts and ended with cake and ice cream! In between we did all his favorite things. We played spot it, went to McDonalds for dinner, played around the house, opened presents and had fun. He loved what he got!
Tyler is a shy guy around people, but definately comes out of his shell when he gets to know you. He has a big heart and likes to think of others. He is all boy and loves working side by side with Dad. He loves going to Dad's shop to see the big trucks. He started sunbeams this year and has only gone once but really liked it (Hailey now hates nursery because her friend, big brother, is not in there with her). He sleeps in his bed with Makena for the most part, but will come and sleep on our floor when he wants. Sometimes he has a hard time going to sleep, and I tell him he has to lay in his bed for 10 minutes and then he can come out. He usually makes it about 5 minutes and comes out and I say he can go lay on the spot we have for the kids in our room. He goes to sleep so fast as soon as he lays down. He likes to have an assignment when we do things, example if we go to the store I tell him 2 things he is in charge of getting and he loves that.
Love you Tyler!!
