This morning she got up and got ready and when she went to put on her tennis shoes, they were, of course, too tight on her feet. So we ran to Target to get some comfy/super fast shoes. She put them on and told me that they would help her run fast! And fast she ran!
They said that each lap around the school was about 3/4 a mile. We started off (I was pushing Kali and Tyler in the stroller) and Makena stayed by me for about 30 seconds, then she wanted to run. So I told her to go ahead and run, but if she needed to stop, to stop and I would catch up. I never saw her after that. She ran and ran her little heart out. She was so far ahead of me, that all I could see was a flash of pink running. I got to the starting point where the kids could do another lap if they wanted and looked for Makena to see if by chance she went to the finish line, but she didn't. She did a second lap. We waited and there she came, still running, and having a great time.
She ran the whole 2 laps by herself and didn't walk once. She was so proud of herself (as was I), she sprinted to the finish line. Once she finished, the Chick-Fil-A cow was there giving the kids high-5s and chicken nuggets. She also got some well deserved water and a popsicle. She was able to get a button that said what a great 2 laps she did!
It was a fun time for us. I bought Makena a school t-shirt and she just had to wear it to school today!
Great job kiddo! You rocked today!
She came home and called Jarel and told him all about it and then told me "Mom, maybe would could run around the park, so that I can show Dad how fast I run."

Makena practicing her running before the "big race"
And she's off...we didn't get too far on the course, before she took off in front of me and never looked back. She was speedy!
This was her 2nd time around! Kali going to cheer her on and run with her.

Making the turn to run down the hill to the finish line!
Heading to the finish line!
After the race enjoying a popsicle and water!

Way to go Makena!
