Traditions

At Makena's school, parents have been coming in talking about a Christmas tradition they have. I wanted to go, but thought it would be fun if Grandma came to school. I asked Makena a couple weeks ago if she wanted me or Grandma to come...and of course she picked Grandma. Makena has been so excited about having Grandma come. Yesterday as we were driving to the store Makena told me "Mom, tomorrow Grandma gets to come to my school. That is so awesome!"
So Grandma came and told her class about the tradition we have of reading "The Santa Claus" story every Christmas Eve and how they made a patch of porridge with one almond in it and whoever gets the nut on Christmas Eve will have good luck all year. Instead of porridge, we do pudding with a nut in it every Christmas Eve. I have done this for as long as I can remember and we are now passing it on to our kids. It is a very fun tradition!
So Grandma read the story and then passed out a pudding to everyone and on the bottom of one of the puddings was an almond taped to it. A little boy got the almond.
A big thanks to Grandma for making Makena's day at school!
