Yesterday when I got home from work, we were all downstairs playing, when I brought up the subject of getting the girls' ears pierced. I was just playing around with them and teasing them telling them I would give them 2 dollars if they would. Or I would give them 100 pennies, some of their favorite candy, or 10 quarters...etc. With every offer I would make, Makena would tell me "No, I don't want mine done." Or, "I will do it when I am 8 years old." I always try to let my kids decide on their own when they are ready. So I didn't push Makena at all to go get them done. I told her everyone has their time when they are ready to do things, and when she is ready then she can come tell me and we will go get them done.
As I was tell the girls about giving them the money or candy, Kali at first said "No way!" But as I continued to offer the stuff, she quickly turned to "Yes, I want them pierced." I asked her "Are you sure...because you don't have too. Mommy was just playing around." But she wanted them done. So we all got in the car and before we met my parents for dinner, we ran over to Clair's to see if they could pierce them right then. (We had about 15 minutes before we had to leave to meet my parents) When I went into the store, I asked one of the girls about how long it would take and if there were 2 people there that could do it. (I thought if they did her ears at the same time, it would be better.) She said it would take about 15 minutes but there was only 1 person available. But she did say that later that night there would be 2 people there. So I told Kali we would leave and come back. Her response, with a little sad voice, "But I wanted my ears pierced now." I couldn't walk out the door with that. So we went and picked out earrings (she picked out little purple flowers) and Kali climbed onto the chair and held a teddy bear. She sat there so still while they prepped her ears and then the lady went for it. She pierced her left one first and when she did, Kali gave a look of "ouch, that hurt but I'm going to be brave and not cry." She did AWESOME! They did the other ear and not a cry out of her. After they were done I told her they looked great and she did an awesome job. Kali gave me a big hug and said, "Thankyou Mom...they look beautiful." Then she told the lady that pierced her ears, "Thankyou for piercing my ears." She got 2 suckers and was a happy girl. We left and we got in the car and she showed off her new look to Makena, Dad, Tyler and Hailey.
When we got to dinner with Grandpa and Grandma, she told them and they were surprised by the news. Kali has told everyone she sees about her new earrings. She is happy and is doing well with them! They look so stinking cute on her. I've been wanting to get my girls' ear pierced for a couple of years now, so I'm glad she chose to do it! She is my brave girl and makes me smile everyday!
