Driving in the Car

I can't complain at how well the kids did driving in the car. Of course each one had their moments that they wanted to get out (Jarel and I did as well), but they did so good on the drive. It is a long drive for little ones, but with movies and snacks and breaks, they kept themselves content and I couldn't have been more pleased with how they did.
With each state sign that we passed, we pointed out to Makena and Kali the name of the state we were in. When we hit California, we asked Makena what was in California. Her response, "Allicen!" We told her, yes she was but we were not going to her house but we would see her. Makena thought long and hard, but still didn't know exactly where we were going. As we came to Barstow and stopped to fill up the van, we told Makena that the place we were going to, she had been before and it started with a "D". She shouted, "We are going to DISNEYLAND!!" and was so excited and all smiles. They couldn't believe it and were happy. It was such a fun surprise to keep from them. Up until then, the kids thought we were going camping, but that we had to drive a long way to go camping where it was warm. Makena and Kali were in the back talking about how fun it will be to feed the ground hogs. It was fun to listen to them try and guess where we were going. I was able to get everything packed and ready while they slept and we packed up the van the night before after they went to bed. Sunday morning as the kids walked out into the garage they were so surprised to see the car packed up with our stuff to leave. So it really turned out great. We left Monday morning from Henderson to California and got to the hotel and then went straight to Disneyland.
